Church

There are many things that christians are getting wrong today, it is hard to narrow down the generic beliefs of a christian because there are so many different yet similar views. One of the ideas that I think most Christians are getting wrong is worship and views on worship.

So many times after attending a church service we hear or say “I didn’t get anything out of that” or something like that. The point of church is not so that you get something, its so you can give praise to The Lord. In todays society it is all about “me” and everyone does things for “me”. We are very self centered in our world.

We are NOT worthy of worship, it says in the Bible in many places that God is worthy though:
“Who is worthy?” (Rev. 5:2)
“You are worthy…for you were slain, and have redeemed us” (Rev. 5:9).
“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain” (Rev. 5:12).

These verses show how He is the one that deserves our praise and not man. Also in Rev. 5:9 it says that he redeemed us, this is a big reason to prove why we need to have the mentality to give back to him for redeeming us. God leaves it to us to make the decision to worship or not.

The other thing that I feel many christians are getting wrong is not loving our neighbors. As a Christian I have seen this many times or heard this. So many Christians find their Christian friends and stay far away from any non-christians. This is not what the Bible tells us nor does it reflect Christ’s teachings.

Jesus is all about love: loving God, loving each other, loving our neighbors, as well as loving our enemies. This is not what I see a lot of in our world today, there are so many judgmental, hypocritical, and mean people out there who claim to be Christians. But there are times when Christians can get it right.

Here is an excerpt from an article I found about this topic:
“When Christians get it right, they love and give, they work for justice and demonstrate kindness. When Christians get it right, they, like Jesus, befriend those who are outside the Church rather than condemning them. And when Christians get it right, people are drawn to, rather than repelled by, their faith.”

When reading this, I feel like they nailed it. This is how Christians should act, this is how i want non-christians to see us and to want to be more like us.

Next comes the issues that the churches will struggle with in the future years to come. I believe that a big issue that they will be dealing with will be gay marriage. We can already see this coming up way more than ever before and I believe that it could get even worse in the future and they wont be able to know that its wrong.

Within the last year or two, gay marriage has been legalized, some Christians feel that since the government says that it is ok that it must be okay. This is not true, in the Bible it says that homosexuality is a sin and they will not inherit the kingdom of God. Whenever the Bible mentions marriage, it means between man and woman, this is what God commands us and we should follow.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ESV
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
In this verse it confirms the point about how they will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Leviticus 20:13 ESV
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
This verse seems a little harsh, but it is true and should not be overlooked. the outcome of homosexuality is condemned by God and the ultimate punishment is death.

Pulling this topic back to the original question, I think that these verses will be overlooked more and more as time goes on. More churches will host Gay marriages and pastors will preach at them. The congregation will see this happening and start believing that this is right and not a bad thing.

The final thing that I feel the Churches will loose in the future is Sola Scriptura. “The phrase sola scriptura is from the Latin: sola having the idea of “alone,” “ground,” “base,” and the word scriptura meaning “writings”—referring to the Scriptures. Sola scriptura means that Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian. The Bible is complete, authoritative, and true. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16)”

As time moves on, we seem to adjust the Bible to how it fits in the modern lives of the people. I believe that the Bible will be changed and interpreted in many different ways and people will continue to cut parts out and edit it to fit the way they want it to. if we can go back to the roots of what the Bible says, i believe it will solve many controversies and arguments within the Christians and church beliefs.

Overall theres a lot of problems that are soon to come, or that have already come, and I really hope that Jesus comes back soon so we don’t have to deal with all that!
